Parking: If you are coming by car to the Swedenborg Chapel, your options for parking will be:
- During Sunday services there's a very small lot on the side. For events, the side lot is crowded and the space is needed for drop offs, so please don't park there.
- It can be worth a look for nearest street parking on Cambridge Street or Broadway (the two streets parallel to Kirkland intersecting Quincy) or Mass Ave along the Cambridge Commons.
- The nearest parking garage is The Broadway Garage on Broadway, which is just 2 blocks away behind and to the right of the chapel, ie. from Kirkland St. (the street on the left side of the chapel) turn right on side streets to cross Cambridge Street and reach Broadway and the Broadway garage. More parking garages also exist in Harvard Square.
- Ample parking is at the Alewife station at the end of the Red line which is at the start of Route 2 (ie the end if coming from Rt 95). From Alewife, 3 subway stops will get you to Harvard Square, and then just walk through Harvard Yard to reach the chapel.
Directions into Cambridge: Below is a MapQuest map of the Boston area with some pointers added toward Cambridge and Harvard Square. Typical routes include:
- From the Northwest, connect from 95/128 and come in on route 2, at the end of 2 take a left on 16 and the next right onto Mass Ave. Continue through Porter Square and into Harvard Square.
- From the North, take 93 either to 95 and follow (1), or take the Medford Square exit to route 16 (a little tricky, this way), meeting Mass. Ave at the top of Cambridge.
- From the South use 93 North to go through Boston and before crossing the river get onto Storrow drive west, then proceed along the southern bank of the Charles River until taking the bridge north into Harvard Square on JFK Street.
- From the West, come in on the Mass. Pike and get off an exit for Cambridge, connecting with Storrow drive on the southern bank of the river (or cross the river to Memorial drive on the northern bank) and go into Harvard Square similarly to (3).
If you are unfamiliar with Boston area driving, please take your time and have a little willingness to get turned around and have to ask for directions. We don't want anyone stressing out more than necessary as you get used to the area's winding roads.
Concerts, lectures, and services are held in the chapel and entered through the front door. Discussion and reading groups are held in the parlor and entered on the left side of the building.
