        Centennial Celebrations
  • Sunday June 3, 2001 is Centennial Celebrations day at the Cambridge Swedenborg Chapel! The chapel is on the U.S. National Registry of Historic Places, received Cambridge city landmarking in 1999, and was designed and constructed in 1901 by H. Langford Warren, founder of Harvard's School of Architecture. It houses the Cambridge Swedenborg congregation, established in 1888. For essays on "What the Chapel Means to Me", see the Readings section.
  • At 11am the Sunday morning service will feature a rededication of the chapel, officiated by Rev. Ronald P. Brugler, President of the Swedenborgian Church, with Rev. F. Robert Tafel, Pastor of the Cambridge Society, and special associate Rev. Gladys Wheaton. Music will be provided by Reiko Akasaka, organist, and Emily Romney, mezzo soprano. All are most welcome!
  • From 12:30pm to 2pm there will be an organized potluck dinner. Join us for food and fellowship in this great opportunity to visit with old friends and meet new ones! There will be plenty of food, so don't worry, just be sure to bring your appetite.
  • At 2:30 will begin a series of speakers and musical presentations to help everyone know us better and celebrate with us the chapel's 100th birthday! Dr. Eugene Taylor, Harvard lecturer on psychiatry, will be warming us up for his June 5 talk on Ralph Waldo Emerson, William James, and the Swedenborgian connections therein. Convention President Rev. Ron Brugler and longtime Cambridge member Rafael Guiu will also be speaking. Music from classical to contemporary will be provided by Amy Reichardt & Joe Tucker, the Emily Romney Trio, and the gospel sounds of ZAP/ZAP. More refreshments and social time to follow, oh what a day!
