- (April 2005) After much consideration and culminating circumstances, the time has come at
last say goodbye to the Mystical Experiences Discussion Group that has met at
the Cambridge Swedenborg Chapel on 1st and 3rd evenings at 7:30pm since about
1999. We deeply thank all who have made the group such a wonderful experience,
it has been a magical place for people to meet and explore spiritual interests
and ideas together. We can all take great satisfaction in knowing that we have
sincerely helped each other and the many spiritual travellers who came through
our doors.
The following information is for the record only...
- 1st & 3rd Wednesdays, 7:45 PM to 9:30 PM. Use the left side entrance of the Chapel building.
- This is an opportunity to share personal growth stories and raise awarenesses in a supportive environment. Please be timely with an open mind and heart.
- This group is hosted by Carl to focus on establishing a structured and safe environment for the validating and sharing of our mystical experiences in everyday life. Some creating of sacred space with meditative exercises will lead into a period for personal check-ins; we find this to be very helpful in the grounding and nurturing of overtly spirit-based experiences for those who seek direct contact with the divine by the various means available to them in their lives, including but not limited to holy dreams, meditations, visions, synchronicities, out of body experiences, energetic surges, and loving guidance from the unseen companions.
- The connection to Emanuel Swedenborg for this group is that Swedenborg believed (and directly experienced) that God's loving plan for us is that we evolve to become the purified spirit beings known to many as the angels. When we choose God's way of good and truth for every situation, we begin the process of regeneration, by which we receive new bodies and enter into joyful occupations with the like-minded communities practicing heavenly love and good works. In this cosmology, life and after-life are really quite similar, both containing spouses, friends, professions, affections, communities, environments and nations much as we see here on Earth. The primary difference is that beyond our Earthly stay more facades fall away, and the heavenly or hellish inclinations (career-tracks, if you will) of individuals become more pronounced and impossible to hide. Swedenborg was denounced and exiled from 18th century Lutheran Sweden for speaking of such things, and spent the remainder of his days in quiet residence outside of London, busy communing and journeying with his spirit friends and documenting extensively what he felt and saw. One could therefore say that the Mystical Experiences Discussion Group represents the kind of community of validation for angels in process by which Swedenborg would have greatly benefitted during his lifetime, and one which he would be highly supportive of to this day.
