     Vernal Equinox Ritual
  • Acclaimed interfaith ritual artist Katja Esser creates her eleventh annual sacred space and participatory ceremony, inviting us to celebrate in the passing of winter and the coming of spring! Drawing upon Native American, African, Celtic traditions and more, Katja is famed for her popular summer solstice rituals at America's Stonehenge (this year 3pm 6/20, see www.stonehengeusa.com), and her equinox rituals are no less sophisticated and beautiful.
  • Katja: "The equinox is approaching. It is the balance point when the sun rises opposite from where it is setting making night and day into equal length. After that moment the days will be longer than the nights. It signifies the beginning of spring, when the earth begins to crack open and the first bursts of green, white, yellow and blues appear. The birds announce the awakening of nature with their joyful songs. Nature is getting ready for action."
  • Katja: "This equinox feels different. The winter did not go into her usual deep sleep as if she wanted to keep us on our toes. The call to awaken is strong. At this moment in history we have an oportunity to open up to personal and planetary healing. Buried underneath the rubble of collapsing structures there is the pregnant earth ready to burst forth. Buried deep inside of us we feel and experience the aching of our soul. It is that ache that moves us to birth, to make changes. We may not forget the heart openings we have felt this last year. Collectively we are called to birth into the power of love so we may awaken to our true nature. Collectively we need to remember our connection to the cosmos and the ancient wisdom. Remember what it means to live in love and partnership, to embrace the richness of our diversity and to align ourselves with what supports and heals life. Again the earth is birthing. The cycle of serving through self expression begins."
  • Katja asks that you bring an object that helps you remember your connection to the cosmos. Bring a pillow to sit on (there are chairs if you can't sit on the floor.) Have your food needs met, and be prepared to move, sound, and breathe. Please do not wear fragrances to this event, for those who have chemical sensitivities.
  • Event starts at 7pm, doors will close at 7:15. Note that this will replace the usual Mystical Experiences Discussion Group for this evening. There is a suggested minimum donation of $7 for Katja's work and materials. The ritual will end about 9:30pm.
