October 8, 2006Congratulations to Rev. Kevin Keith Baxter, officially installed as our eighth pastor of the chapel on October 8, 2006! His warmth, friendliness, and enthusiasm make him a real blessing for the Cambridge congregation, and his love and wisdom for the Swedenborg tradition inspire us all. You can contact Keith at (617) 864-4552 or email pastor@swedenborgchapel.org
April 2005Hmmm, we haven't been updating the what's new page every time, but there are *NEW* sermons and addresses posted on our Readings page.
April 2002The website has the Easter sermon that was delivered by Rev. Sarah Buteux. What a special day that was! We celebrated the baptism of Brenda Wiberg, the confirmations of Zeta Gonzalez and Gretchen Tafel, and the visit of our dear friend Sarah who, ta da!, has accepted to serve as our Associate Pastor starting this summer! March was also a bumper crop of interesting events at the chapel, see the Events Archive for details and the Events Page for more great things upcoming, including the new First Fridays Gospel Service.
Sunday October 28, 2001We offer our prayers for peace and hope, now that the world has changed since Sept 11. For the chapel, this has been a rewarding year of community involvement and spirituality. In the readings section you'll find a number of new Sunday address contributions. Eugene Taylor has started a new lecture series to celebrate the 100th anniversary of William James' Varieties of Religious Experience. Both the Carl Jung Society and the International Association for Near Death Studies held lectures at the chapel this month, with more to follow. And the Spiritual art shows were fabulous successes, with more inspiration to come next year as well. The Swedenborg Chapel is a place to be, so keep an eye us!
Sunday April 1, 2001It's no April Fool's! The chapel is 100 years old this year! And a purchase and sale agreement has been signed to transfer the chapel to the congregation, with a two-year clock begun ticking for fund raising to actually pay for the property. What a busy year this will be! We have Centennial Celebrations on June 3, fabulous Spiritual art shows planned for April, July, and September, and we're just getting started! See the Events page for more details, and many thanks to all the people helping make this a banner year for the visibility, service, and freedom of the Cambridge Swedenborg Chapel.
January 8, 2000Happy New Year! Goodness, how time flies. Holiday services at the chapel were lovely, and now Rev. Gladys Wheaton is offering a special February-March workshop series on Spiritual Self-Love to start us off right for 2001! See here for more details.
September 8, 2000On the Website: A fruitful summer has resulted in several new sermons posted to the readings pages, as well as a classic rediscovered from Rev. Wilfred Gould Rice during his service at the chapel.
Sunday August 20, 2000Summer services have been going well, and the noon-time classical concerts saw another great year. A new round of sermons is ready to be posted on the website momentarily. But what's this? NEWS FLASH! The Chapel property dispute has been resolved in principle by a new and grand unification of efforts from within our entire Swedenborgian community, including Convention and SSR. Read all about it here!
June 25, 2000The links page is full of connections for further study. The events page announces the July-August lunchtime concert series.
May 29, 2000The website now does justice to the fine author in our midst, Dr. Eugene Taylor. The readings page links to information on his books on spiritual healing and history in America. The events page announces the mind-body lecture next Tuesday at which he presides.
Sunday May 28, 2000Rev. Tafel reminds us that the 10th annual lecture on Psychology and Religion will be free and fascinating for all to attend Tuesday June 6. The big annual meeting of the Chapel's Cambridge Society was held after barbecue, and all concerns were amiably discussed, including our hopes to respectfully settle the church's ownership issues, and all misunderstandings there-around, with the School of Religion at the upcoming annual Swedenborgian Convention.
March 2, 2000The chapel history page now has the landmarking study summary and lots of neat photo links. The events page is announcing at top the 6 part Swedenborgian introductory series that Rev. Tafel will be facilitating starting this coming Sunday.
Sunday February 27, 2000Rev. Tafel announced that starting next Sunday at 1pm, for 6 Sundays in a row, he will host in the parlor a group to hear Rev. Lee Woofenden's audio cassette series on the Swedenborgian Faith and Practice. For more information on this popular introductory series and how to obtain the tapes for yourself, click here.
February 24, 2000On the Website: The pages on Who is Swedenborg? and Our Beliefs are filling in. These will be fun and informative with many viewpoints, so be sure to check for new links on them often.
February 2000The holistic community publication Earth Star is also now listing the Chapel, under the ongoing Massachusetts events (see "Spiritual..."). These ads are bringing in some wonderful new visitors - this month we met a direct descendent of Johnny "Appleseed" Chapman, to whom we were delighted to explain her famous ancestor's Swedenborgian roots. She hadn't known; she just felt the urge to drop in one day! :)
January 17, 2000Happy Martin Luther King day! On the Website: I've been filling in my previous "what's new" ambitions, plus the site now also has its own search engine!
Sunday January 9, 2000
  1. Reverend Tafel reasserts his New Year's resolution to transcribe all his fine sermons for the website, so webmaster Carl must hop to it!
  2. Pauli announces the formal opening of the Flower Fund, for memorial flowers to be specifically arranged, or general benefactors to brighten the chapel and the lives of shut-ins.
  3. See the Jan-Feb issue of the free New England holistic publication "Spirit of Change" on page 73 for the Swedenborg Chapel's new ad! It's a great issue to be in, with a big article on the Dalai Lama, who met with chapel officers years ago to give personal thanks for sharing the chapel with the Boston Tibetan refugee community.
January 2000On the Website: Design is finalized. Directions and these what's new pages are going up first, then Reverend Tafel's sermons will begin to appear in the readings to give you a sense of what we enjoy, plus event listings will grow to welcome you.
Year 2000Happy New Year! Approximately 1996 years since the blessed birth of our Saviour Jesus Christ, and 332 years since the birth of our namesake and hero of our faith, the Christian mystic and philosopher Emanuel Swedenborg.
December 15, 1999On the Website: Webmeister Carl is developing a first-class site, with stained glass window navigation bar from photos of the chapel, frames for easy scrolling (frames will make bookmarking difficult though, so new framesets will be made for important reading pages), style-sheets for link colors (best viewed on Explorer), and fun background effects, especially on the under construction pages. Betty's drawing will grace the entrance as it did on the old site.
December 1, 1999On the Website: The Cambridge Swedenborg Chapel Society of Cambridge, Massachusetts is fortunate to acquire the domain name swedenborgchapel.org, and we will be happy to link to other Swedenborg Chapels around the world on request.
